Volunteers will take part in a New Volunteer Orientation which includes an overview of the Rescue Mission’s programs, services and volunteer opportunities. Volunteers will receive a Volunteer Packet and have a brief tour of the main facility.

Parking:

Enter our parking lot from the Mill St. gate across from Bay State Plumbing. Stop at the Guard Shack. You will be directed to parking and to enter through the Visitor Entrance door.

Please refrain from wearing perfume/cologne.

Volunteers will help Chef Lee with food preparation for SRM Thanksgiving through the week.

Volunteers will help serve Thanksgiving Meals to residents and the public followed by clean up. Further details will be given prior to start of event. Please arrive on time!

In the event that registered volunteers cancel before or during the day of meal deliveries due to unforeseen circumstances or do not show for their route, on-call back-up volunteers will be notified to help deliver scheduled meals to respective meal recipients.

Volunteers must be willing to remain available from 11am-11:30 am in order to receive notification of need for back-up help and have saved the time frame of 2 hours to deliver meals as well! Notifications may be called in earlier as received.

*Please Note: There must be 2 volunteers per vehicle when making deliveries. Please plan on bringing a friend or family member.

Holiday Meal Delivery 11:00am – 1:00pm

Volunteers will deliver prepared Thanksgiving meals to the elderly, disabled and house-bound. Directions and instructions will be given upon arrival to load vehicle. Please arrive on time!

*Please Note: There must be at least 2 volunteers per vehicle when making deliveries. Please plan on bringing a friend or family member.

Delivery times may be longer or shorter depending on the routes and number of addresses each volunteer will be given.

Volunteers will help assemble Thanksgiving Meals for Meal Deliveries, sit-down Meal and Take-out Meals. This will include separating lids from containers, filling cranberry/apple sauce or pineapple per holiday event.

Note: Please remember to wear your SRM baseball cap or other hat, closed toe shoes and tie long hair back. Aprons and gloves will be provided.

Volunteers will help prepare and serve Thanksgiving Meals for: Meal Deliveries, sit-down Meal and Take-out Meals.

Volunteers will have breaks when needed and will have lunch around 12 noon.

 * Note: End time for event may be earlier than 3pm.

One of the most rewarding ways to volunteer is to make a meal for the Residents in the Men's New Life Rehabilitation Program. This is a tremendous help to the Rescue Mission. Volunteers should plan for 25-30 men. Meals range from pizza and grinders, to casserole dishes, spaghetti and meatballs, cold-cut sandwiches, chicken dishes, burgers and dogs and everything in between. Side dishes and salads are always appreciated.

*Hours are generated according to volunteers' approximate preparation time to make the meal and/or serve it.

Meals can be dropped off by 4:00pm of the scheduled day. Please label and date the meal if dropped off prior to scheduled date.

Registered volunteers can stay to serve if desired.

Volunteers will help organize warehouse, restock and sort items under the direction of the Warehouse Coordinator. Volunteers may be asked to cross over to the GiveAway Center for additional support.

Volunteers will arrive at 10:00am help prepare and serve Lunch for:

·       Residents, staff, volunteers & visitors: 12pm - 12:30pm

·       Homeless/community guests - 12:30pm - 1pm followed by clean up.

Please remember to wear your SRM baseball cap or other hat, closed toe shoes and tie long hair back. (SRM can provide mesh hair coverings if needed.)

Will be trained.

Volunteers will provide a dinner meal for the homeless men in the Rescue Mission's Men's Emergency Shelter and the graduated men in the Transitional Living Program. Volunteers should plan to provide for 40 men. Registered volunteers may choose to stay to serve; drop off meals should arrive for 4pm

Volunteers will help prepare the lunch bags and load the van with food, water, and other items to be distributed at various locations to the homeless and poverty-stricken in the community.

Please remember to follow the lead of the SRM Chaplain in all locations when serving the homeless. He has the right to guide and direct volunteers in order to keep all concerned safe and at peace.

Breakfast: 6:00am – 8:00am

Volunteers will arrive at 6 a.m. to help prepare and serve breakfast to residents and the public followed by clean up.

Breakfast for residents is at 6:30; Breakfast for the public is at 7 a.m.

Enter the Public Breakfast Door to the left of the Visitor Entrance. Volunteers may park in the spaces in front of that door.
